Job Description

The copy editor is our grammatical gatekeeper, reads over content created for our own communications as well as for our customers, and checks for everything from typos to nonsensical sentences to errant commas.  Our copy editor lets our content shine and makes its quality comparable with the content quality of the leading publications in the world.

Responsibilities

The copy editor has accountability for the exceptional quality of our internal and client created content as well as the ongoing development of our content marketing capabilities. Additional accountabilities include but are not limited to:

• definition and implementation of style guides and appropriate tone of voice for internal use and different client environments,
• ensuring that content adheres to in-house or client-specific style guides,
• staying abreast of the latest media trends and content best practices,
• identification and implementation of content development tools,
• ensuring consistent global experience and implementing appropriate localization and translation strategies,
• leveraging Google Workspace, HubSpot, and integrated tools to maximize content creation efficiency, effectiveness, and quality.

 

Key Activities:

• Proofread text and correct spelling, grammar, punctuation errors, and syntax,
• verify factual correctness of information, such as dates and statistics,
• check text for style, readability, and adherence to editorial policies,
• ensure alignment of created content with SEO guidelines,
• rewrite text to improve clarity and readability,
• check content for plagiarism,
• arrange page layouts of photos, articles, and advertisements, and
• identify development opportunities for our content marketers and provide feedback/coaching as appropriate.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field, e.g., journalism, communications, English,
• knowledge of Associated Press and/or Chicago Style,
• desire to learn and grow and inspire others to do the same,
• ability to balance between being a drill sergeant and an inspiring coach,
• passion for excellence,
• ability to work and be productive in a self-managed, remote, startup environment,
• knowledge of and/or willingness to learn to be comfortable with Google Workspace and integrated tools, HubSpot, Grammarly, etc.
